Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish Council and Community Wreath and Poppies

The Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish Council community wreath was originally made and coordinated in 2021 by Emma Sutton, with the help of Pam Wise, Gisela Blee and Sarah Dalby, who all made poppies. The wreath is refurbished each year, with new poppies added. The wreath includes all four poppy colours: red, white, black and purple, which each have different meanings. The text on the wreath reads: 'Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish Council: Made with respect by the Brimscombe and Thrupp Community'.

In 2023 additional poppies were added to the site. Many thanks to Judy Dame who made poppies and sent them from Canada. These are added to each year. If you would like to knit or crochet poppies to add we would be very grateful. Please contact us at: clerk@brimscombeandthrupp-pc.gov.uk to arrange dropping them off.

Brimscombe War Memorial

Brimscombe War Memorial was unveiled on Sunday 22 October 1922 to commemorate members of Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish who served in the First World War. The memorial was later updated with a tribute to those who served in the Second World War.

It is shown on the Ordnance Survey Map of 1936 approximately 25m to the south east of its current location. It was moved following the widening of the trunk road between Stroud and Cirencester in the 1970s, and relocated to a high bank overlooking the road. Formerly it had been separated from the road by 11 steps, but at its new location there are 17 steps and a paved garden surrounding the cross. The memorial and its setting was restored in 2009 with a grant from the War Memorials Trust. (Source: Brimscombe War Memorial, Stroud, Gloucestershire)
